A Plano police officer was drunk and off duty when his pickup collided with the patrol car of a fellow officer early Friday, according to a report released Tuesday by police officials.

Officer Ray Wilde, 37, also was speeding and he failed to heed a red light when the wreck happened 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Legacy Drive and the service road to U.S. 75 in Plano, according to the report.

Wilde’s Ford F-150, eastbound on Legacy Drive, entered the intersection and slammed into a marked Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser that was driven by on-duty Officer Kenneth Foale, 29.

Foale, according to the report, was attempting to turn left with a green light onto Legacy Drive from the service road, police said.

There was heavy damage to both vehicles, police said…”

That is one for the books.  An off duty police officer drunk, well that is not news or a surprise, and he is out driving an crashes into an officer from his same department.
We all know that if he had just crashed into a plain old citizen that the police from his department would have been trying to protect him as best they could and find the other officer at fault.  In this case Officer, soon to be ex-officer, Ray Wilde was fucked.

I think anytime a police officer on or off duty has an accident that a full drug screen should be done.  I think it should be a department rule.  Just the way it is a department rule if you discharge you gun on or off duty that a report has to be turned in on the event.
Drinking is a big problem for police officers.  It is sort of the thing to do.  Get with your buddies and drink and be macho but it ends up a problem for the officer, his family, his friends, the police department and all of us.
